XState and statecharts training, taught by the person who wrote XState

Private, hands-on workshops for your engineers. Day one they model a real feature as a statechart. By the end they’ve built it, tested it and argued about it in a code review, which is the point.

Available worldwide. On-site or remote. Travel and lodging are billed on top of the fee.

What can your team learn?

Pick a track or mix modules across them. Every workshop is tailored on a 30-minute prep call, so we spend the day on your problems, not a todo app.

XState & statecharts, from the creator

Model complex features as state machines and actors, then ship them with XState v5 in React, Vue, Svelte or plain TypeScript. Level: intermediate.

States, events and transitions, Hierarchical and parallel states, Guards, actions and delayed events, Actors: spawning, messaging, persistence, XState + TypeScript inference, Visualizing and simulating with Stately Studio

React state management at scale

Cut useState/useEffect sprawl, normalize data, choose the right store and make React and Next.js apps easier to change. Level: intermediate to advanced.

Derived vs. stored state, Goodbye, useEffect: event-driven effects, Stores: XState Store, Zustand, Redux, context, Normalization and caching, Server state and Next.js, Refactoring a real feature, step by step

State-machine-powered AI agents

Build agents that are predictable, testable and observable: explicit states, human approval steps and LLMs only where flexibility pays off. Level: intermediate.

Why prompts alone produce slop, Agent loops as graphs, Human-in-the-loop approval states, Tools, guards and recovery paths, Observability and evaluation, Using @statelyai/agent and XState

Visual modeling & model-based testing

Get product, design and engineering on one diagram, then generate tests from the model instead of writing them all by hand. Level: all levels.

Recording, licensing, deposit and cancellation are in the engagement terms. Smaller team or just you? Join a public workshop from $795 a seat.

How does booking work?

It’s a state machine, obviously. You send the inquiry; I reply within two business days with dates and a scoping call. After the call you get a fixed proposal. A 50% deposit holds the date; the balance is invoiced on delivery, net 15.

Every workshop includes

  • A 30-minute prep call to fit the content to your stack
  • An exercise repo with starter code and solutions
  • Slides and reference notes for every attendee
  • Live Q&A all day, and a wrap-up on applying it to your roadmap

What engineers say about XState

“We’ve been using XState for our new payments product. Shout out to the team that is making designing complex front-end flows a dream.”

“We use XState to implement business workflows as statecharts. The visualizer helps us collaborate more closely with customers, the ability to externalize workflows as JSON configuration makes complex workflow changes surprisingly simple to roll out, and test case generation makes it easier than ever to move forward with confidence.”

“XState naturally separates the logic and makes it simple to mock out API calls, so it’s easier to test the code and organize it!”

Questions people ask before booking

Who teaches the workshop?

I do. Every time. I created XState in 2015 and founded Stately in 2021, and I don’t hand workshops to subcontractors. Above roughly 30 hands-on attendees a teaching assistant joins me so nobody waits for help.

What does a private XState workshop cost?

Remote half days start at $9,500 and remote full days at $15,000 for up to 20 engineers. On-site days start at $20,000 plus travel for up to 25 engineers. Multi-day on-site programs start at $36,000 (2 days) and $50,000 (3 days, including a day on your codebase).

Can the workshop use our own codebase?

Yes. Add the pre-workshop codebase review ($5,000) and I will build the exercises around your real problems, or choose the 3-day on-site program, which includes a full day on your code.

Do we need to use XState?

No. The modeling skills (states, events, transitions, actors) apply to any stack and any library. XState is used for the hands-on parts because it implements statecharts faithfully, but the concepts transfer to Redux, Zustand, plain TypeScript or backend workflows.

Can we record the workshop?

Workshops are not recorded by default. An internal recording license is +30% of the fee for 12 months or +60% perpetual. See the engagement terms.

How do we book?

Send an inquiry with your team size, dates and budget. After a short scoping call you get a proposal; a 50% non-refundable deposit holds the date and the balance is invoiced on delivery, net 15.

Do you offer discounts?

Listed prices are minimums. Registered nonprofits, universities and the public sector get 25% off. Individuals and small teams can join a public workshop from $795 per seat.

Ready to stop guessing what state you’re in?

Send your team size, dates and budget. You’ll hear back within two business days.
